Kyran Stansfield has been at Resolve for 11 years and is the project team leader. In simple terms, this means that any projects – things like cloud migrations and installs – are overseen by Kyran and his team. Despite now holding a senior position, Kyran’s career journey at Resolve started out with an apprenticeship. In the decade since, he has gone on to tackle several areas of IT and now assists the junior members of staff with their work.
Before Resolve
After finishing secondary school, Kyran briefly went to sixth form before deciding to start an apprenticeship. Initially, he always thought he would go into the finance sector as he enjoyed working with numbers and when applying for apprenticeships, he also applied for accountancy apprenticeships.
Starting at Resolve
Kyran first started at Resolve as a dedicated client team apprentice – which was a one-year apprenticeship. On completion, he moved to the helpdesk team to become an IT helpdesk engineer. In this role, he was the first point of contact for Resolve clients. If they had any issues, such as needing password resets, then Kyran was most likely one of the people who would pick up the phone and assist them.
Joining Projects
After six months, Kyran was asked to go on-site to help the project engineer at the time. From there, Kyran made the jump to join the project team as a junior. A lot of the training he received in this role was on-the-job learning, in addition to some Microsoft exams.
After being in this role for the next eight and a half years, he was promoted to Projects Team Leader. This is a crucial role within the company, especially so during the Covid-19 pandemic. Kyran had the big task of assisting businesses in moving their operations to remote settings at the start of lockdown and this involved him migrating numerous companies from internal servers to the cloud. To assist him in his new role, Kyran has done the Resolve Management Academy with Andrew, the MD of Resolve. This is where you go over the fundamentals and an introduction to management at Resolve. As well as this, he is currently doing a course called Accelerating Leadership Potential with Andy Hansleman. It is a seven-month course where he attends a monthly session that goes through ways to develop his leadership skills.
Making a difference
Having worked here for over a decade, Kyran has made his mark on Resolve. Whilst being in the Projects team he has been instrumental in helping to streamline project procedures, as well as designing processes. In this role, he enjoys being able to influence the future of projects and if he thinks something needs changing or processes could do with being updated, he is in a position where he is able to talk to the right people and get it amended as needed.
During his time at Resolve, Kyran’s hard work has been appreciated by customers and colleagues alike. This is evident in the many awards he has won within the company, including Customer Service Champion and Grand National once, Rising Star twice, and Above and Beyond an astonishing four times.
Kyran's thoughts on his career so far
Kyran is a big advocate for apprenticeships, having started his career with one himself. His advice for people who are looking to follow a similar career path is: “Do an apprenticeship and get a fundamental understanding of networking and desktop support. Also, learn lots about the cloud as it is the future of IT.”
Looking back on his career and the lessons he has learned, Kyran says: “Failure is key to learning. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes in the deep end. These are the lessons that have helped me grow and develop and succeed to be where I am today. I am very proud of what I have achieved, I have worked hard, and the results have followed. I’ve been fortunate enough to buy my first house and the house for me represents the hard work I have put into my job to get me where I am today.”
It has certainly been a progressive 11 years at Resolve for Kyran, and we can’t wait to see where the next 11 years take him.
